October 3, 2014

Fiona Stanley Hospital was officially opened today, marking the start of a new era in healthcare in WA.

Over 300 guests attended the celebrations, which included a traditional smoking ceremony to cleanse the site and bless the new hospital.

The event was marked by speeches from Premier Colin Barnett, Minister for Health Dr Kim Hames and Professor Fiona Stanley, before they unveiled commemorative plaques.

The first phase of FSH opens tomorrow, with rehabilitation patients at Royal Perth Hospital’s Shenton Park Campus transferred to FSH's new State Rehabilitation Service.

FSH will open in four phases to prioritise patient safety, culminating with the heart and lung transplant services in March 2015. The Emergency Department is scheduled to open at 7am on 3 February 2015.
