Pathology

At Fiona Stanley Hospital, we provide a wide range of pathology services including:

  • anatomical pathology
  • biochemistry
  • haematology (including transfusion medicine)
  • microbiology
  • immunology
  • genomics. 

We aim to support the growing demand for pathology services within the south metropolitan area as well as at our hospital.

Run by PathWest Laboratory Medicine WA, our Pathology department offers a 24 hour daily inpatient service.

A purpose-built pathology facility is located adjacent to the main hospital and includes 3 levels of laboratory and support space.

Specimen Collection Centre

The PathWest FSH Specimen Collection Centre is located on the ground floor of the main hospital, off the main concourse.

Outpatient specimen collections are performed for clinic patients, GP and external requests, including:

  • timed dynamic test collection such as glucose tolerance tests
  • short synacthen tests
  • other collections that require patient preparation. 

Please note that all timed collections must be booked in advance.

Specimen collection for clinical trial samples are performed as required.

Daily ward rounds for inpatients are performed by the Specimen Collection Centre throughout the year.

The Specimen Collection Centre is located in the main hospital, off the main concourse (ground floor).

The Pathology building is located opposite the main hospital entrance.

The main entrance to the hospital is accessed off Robin Warren Drive.
