Anaesthesia and Pain Medicine

The Department of Anaesthesia and Pain Medicine is the largest department in our hospital and is involved throughout the patient journey, from pre-operative to peri-operative and post-operative care

We aim to maintain a central role in promoting patient safety and quality and to provide leadership, training and education through the phased opening process and beyond.

Our staff have a wide range of skills in all aspects of anaesthesia from paediatric anaesthesia, trauma, burns, cardiothoracic and pain. We are extensively involved with resuscitation and crisis management, are medical experts in caring for the critically ill in unstable environments, to managing pain, nausea, fluid management and reassurance or advice.

We provide 24-hour cover for medical emergencies and conduct regular pain and chronic pain rounds for inpatients.

We provide a service for 15 operating theatres, including diagnostic procedures, pre-admission clinics and acute pain service.
