School in hospital
Children and young people from across WA who are admitted to Fiona Stanley Hospital (FSH) or treated as outpatients may be supported by the School of Special Educational Needs: Medical and Mental Health (SSEN:MMH) (external site).
Students from both government and non-government schools can be referred through medical and mental health programs and be supported by staff from SSEN:MMH.
For teaching programs the primary emphasis is for SSEN:MMH staff to follow the enrolled school program and support transition back to that school through liaison and meetings.
Home teaching can be provided if the health team or doctor consider a patient requires a period of 2 to 10 weeks of convalescence at home before returning to school. Home teaching support can be requested with a supporting medical certificate.
SSEN:MMH provides support to all inpatient and referred compulsory school aged children at FSH, however the priority is those children whose anticipated time away from school is five school days or more.
