Injury prevention advocate wins national award

Mr Milner received the award for his significant work in injury prevention and safety promotion public policy in Western Australia.

Over the past decade, Mr Milner has been a strong advocate for ensuring injury prevention and safety promotion remain a priority within state government policy and that funding is allocated to injury monitoring for responsive action to emerging issues in WA.

He leads the development and implementation of statewide injury prevention policy and his collaborative approach translates policy into practice. He engages with researchers, policymakers and practitioners to innovate and apply best practice in injury prevention.

The Award is named in honour of previous public health employee at the Department of Health, Pam Albany. The Award commemorates Pam’s achievements and lifetime commitment to public health. Pam was a driving force behind injury prevention programs and practice in Australia and a long-standing contributor to public health.

Mr Milner joins a prestigious list of Pam Albany Memorial Award winners including:

• Julie Brown, Program Head of the Injury Division at The George Institute for Global Health Australia
• Dave Strachan, Office of Fair Trading, Queensland
• Sue Wicks, East Kimberley Indigenous Coordination Centre.
