WA Health advice following confirmed Queensland COVID-19 case

WA Health has issued advice for recently returned Queensland travellers, following a public health alert issued for parts of Brisbane today.

Queensland Health (external site) issued the alert following the detection of a positive COVID-19 case at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane.

WA’s Chief Health Officer Dr Andrew Robertson said any individuals in WA who had visited in the following Queensland locations during the relevant times should get tested immediately for COVID-19 and quarantine until March 25 – 14 days from March 11 when the case from Princess Alexandra Hospital was considered to be infectious.

Dr Robertson said Queensland Health was in the process of contact tracing the case and would notify WA Health if any close or casual contacts were found to be in Western Australia to allow for appropriate public health follow up to be taken.

“We believe any risk to WA remains very low, but the situation highlights the importance of remaining vigilant to prevent the chance of any spread of the virus or community transmission in this State.

“We will continue to monitor the situation in Queensland very closely and issue updated health advice if required,” he said.

Dr Robertson also said that any recent arrivals into WA from Queensland should remain vigilant and to get tested and isolate immediately if even mild symptoms developed.

WA Health continues to urge anyone with symptoms, such as a fever, headache, cough, sore throat or runny nose, to get tested for COVID-19 and to isolate until they receive a negative result in line with the normal health advice.
