COVID-19 update – 23 October 2020

The Department of Health has reported six new cases of COVID-19 in Western Australia overnight.

The confirmed cases – all males aged between 26 and 54 – returned to Perth from overseas. Five are in hotel quarantine and one is in hospital.

AL Messilah: Two further crew who became symptomatic were taken off the vessel overnight and are in hotel quarantine. One crew member remains in hospital and there are 14 crew on-board.

Key Integrity: There have been no further crew movements, with deep-cleaning to be completed overnight. Eight crew remain in hotel quarantine (two confirmed COVID-19 cases and six close contacts) and 12 crew remain on-board as essential crew.

The Department of Health continues to work with the shipping agent, Fremantle Ports and the Australian Maritime Safety Authority on the management of both vessels.

The State’s total confirmed cases now stands at 753.

There are 52 active cases being monitored by WA Health and 692 people have recovered from the virus.

Yesterday 404 people presented to WA COVID-19 clinics – 399 were assessed and 398 swabbed.

There have been 473,120 COVID-19 tests performed in WA. Of those tested, 80,300 were from regional WA.
