Aeromedical Services WA Inquiry

The Aeromedical Services WA Inquiry was established under part 15 of the Public Health Act 2016.

The Inquiry’s aim was to review current arrangements for aeromedical transport in Western Australia and make recommendations for improving patient outcomes and related governance and coordination arrangements.

Dr Marcus Kennedy (PDF 69KB) was appointed by the Chief Health Officer, Dr Andrew Robertson, to conduct the Inquiry.

The Inquiry phases include (indicative dates):

Final report

The final report of the Aeromedical Services WA Inquiry was tabled in WA parliament, by the Minister for Health on 18 May 2023. The report provided 10 principal recommendations for consideration by Government.

Implementation

The Department of Health has developed a project plan for implementation of the recommendations of the review and initial scoping work has commenced.

Engagement surveys

The Aeromedical Services WA Inquiry developed several engagement surveys to develop an initial understanding of the ‘current state’ of aeromedical services in WA.

These were open to identified stakeholders and their staff between 17 September and 31 October 2021. Below are copies of the engagement surveys utilised.

Public/stakeholder forums

The Aeromedical Services WA Inquiry held several public/stakeholder forums to further assist in developing an understanding of the ‘current state’ of aeromedical services within Western Australia; seeking to understand the perceived strengths and weaknesses.

Forums were held for each region and the Perth Metropolitan area, during late October/early November 2021.

Formal hearings

The Aeromedical Services WA Inquiry held formal hearings between 10 February and 15 February 2022.

The purpose of the hearings were to explore in more detail the current state considerations that have been raised through the written submissions received, public stakeholder forums and information gathered during the interjurisdictional review.
