Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)

The Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC) is an internationally accredited course that is conducted in over 14 countries.

This course is a dynamic and interactive 2 day program that delivers core trauma knowledge and skills necessary for the care and management of the severely injured patient.

The course teaches nurses to rapidly and accurately assess the trauma patient for life threatening injuries and intervene as necessary.

Whilst primarily a trauma course the knowledge and skills gained from attending this course can be applied to all areas of nursing.

In 2009, the Western Australian Trauma Training and Education Unit (WATTEU) was granted a licence to conduct this internationally accredited course in WA and since that time has successfully conducted up to 12 courses a year. 

The teaching faculty bring an enthusiastic approach with a broad range of skills and knowledge from both a metropolitan and rural perspective.

Eligibility

To attend a TNCC course, it is highly recommended that participants possess:

• At least 6 months clinical nursing experience in an emergency care or trauma related setting
• An understanding of emergency care terminology
• Familiarity with standard emergency equipment.

• Renewal course – WA Health employee: $475.00 (subsidised)

Applications

If you are interested in applying for TNCC courses you will need to complete an application form (external site). If you require a hard copy of the application form please email WATTEU@health.wa.gov.au.

All efforts will be made to secure your preferred course selection date, although placement cannot be guaranteed.

Offers are made to applicants on the waiting list approximately 2 to 3 months before the course starts.

All offers are valid for 14 days. Once offers have been accepted, cancellation policy applies.

The above fees include a course manual, lunch and refreshments.

Recognition of prior learning/advanced standing

Edith Cowan University (external site) and The University of Notre Dame (external site) have granted participants of the TNCC Provider Course Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) or advanced standing for postgraduate nursing studies.

Edith Cowan University offers advanced standing for 1 of their core units in Master of Clinical Nursing Program Advanced Nursing Science 1 (NNS511).

The University of Notre Dame Australia offers eligible students advanced standing of up to 100cps if they are enrolled in a graduate diploma course.

Verification

Course participants are only eligible for TNCC verification if they are a Registered Nurse.

Verification is issued from Emergency Nurses Association USA upon successful completion of the course.

This will expire 4 years from the last day of the month when the card was issued.
