New recruit Lesley Watson has been welcomed as the 300th member of Fiona Stanley Hospital’s (FSH) helpful and enthusiastic team of volunteers.

Even though she has retired from full-time work, Lesley said she still had a lot to give as a volunteer.

“I volunteer at Perth Zoo and I really wanted to do more, so here I am,” Lesley said.

“Helping people helps me in so many ways. The experience has been very fulfilling for me personally.”

Coordinator Volunteer Services David Tomlinson said volunteers had  broad and varied roles.

“Our volunteers provide a variety of services designed to support patients during their time in hospital - from delivering newspapers to supporting patients and their families when they present to Emergency Department,” David said.

“With each new volunteer comes a new set of skills and life experiences, which enable the service to grow and develop.

“Many of our patients have been inspired to give back and have become volunteers themselves. These volunteers work in specialist areas and offer practical support through first-hand experience.”
