A strong passion for burns management combined with a medical career spanning over 37-years has seen exemplar State Adult Burns Service Clinical Nurse Consultant Sharon Rowe honoured for excellence.

Sharon was recently awarded the South Metropolitan Health Service (SMHS) Board Award at the inaugural SMHS Excellence Awards for her commitment to ensuring Western Australians receive safe and accessible health care services.

In line with her commitment to education and burns management, Sharon has been instrumental in ensuring patients receive high quality care in both rural and remote areas.

“I am so very humbled by the recognition, but this award is an acknowledgment of all the work done by the adult burns team at Fiona Stanley Hospital,” Sharon said.

“On a personal level this means that I am on the right track to ensuring that no matter who you are or where you live, we are working so that you receive timely and appropriate burn care.”

Her vision for change has seen the adult burns service create a lasting relationship with the Department of Corrective Services to facilitating educational burns care seminars for nurses across Western Australia (WA).

“The burns team works hard to be accessible, build relationships and educate the community so that everyone in WA gets the best possible evidence based burns care,” Sharon said.

SMHS Chief Executive Paul Forden said Sharon exemplified the values of the organisation and was continually impressed by the achievements of staff.

Sharon’s work is one of many countless examples within our organisation of staff demonstrating exceptional care and exemplifying our values of Care, Integrity, Respect, Excellence and Teamwork,” Mr Forden said.
