Fiona Stanley Hospital welcomed 123 new medical graduates last week, signalling the start of their careers as doctors.

The graduates, from both local and interstate universities, have diverse backgrounds including pharmacy, engineering, nursing, allied health and the military.

Their five-day induction and orientation at Fiona Stanley Hospital included clinical scenarios, equipment training and an ‘Amazing Race’ style site familiarisation exercise.

The interns will complete five 10-11 week rotations this year in different medical specialties at Fiona Stanley Hospital, Fremantle Hospital, Rockingham General Hospital, Albany Hospital and Broome Hospital.

Fiona Stanley Hospital’s Acting Executive Director Dr Paul Mark welcomed the new medical interns.

“Working at Fiona Stanley Hospital presents some fantastic career opportunities for these young doctors,” Dr Mark said.

“We hope their experience here will be the start of long and fulfilling medical careers and will help us to continue to deliver safe and quality care to our patients.”

Of the 316 interns who have begun work at Perth’s tertiary public hospitals, the group starting at Fiona Stanley is the largest.
