Fiona Stanley Hospital’s state-of-the-art Family Birthing Centre is now taking bookings from expectant mothers.

The centre, scheduled to open in October 2019, is taking referrals from women with a low risk pregnancy living in the south metropolitan catchment and due on or beyond 11 November. Read more about the centre and its inclusion and exclusion criteria.

The centre will feature three birthing suites, two with inbuilt birthing pools and the other a portable pool, specially designed birthing cubes, day beds, birthing silks and family lounge facilities.

Clinical Midwife Rowena Davies said the new family birth centre will provide women access to midwifery-led care through their antenatal, labour, birth and postnatal periods, which is currently not offered south of the river.

“If women are interested in having an active, physiological birth with the support of the same midwife through the process, this is the right service for them,” Rowena said.

“We are so excited to open our doors later this year and start meeting all the new mums!”

The centre is designed to provide care to women with low-risk pregnancies to have a more home-like, holistic birthing experience. Women will need to meet the clinical criteria for a low-risk pregnancy to be offered the Family Birth Centre model of care.

Being co-located within FSH, which has a birth suite and a neonatal intensive care unit, will enable swift access to a higher level of care should complications develop during pregnancy or the birth.

Self-referrals can be made by phoning 6152 9416 or emailing or a GP referral to FSH maternity requesting the Family Birthing Centre.
