Fiona Stanley Hospital’s (FSH) paediatric ward and children’s playground were unveiled today, providing the first look at facilities that will cater to children in Perth’s south metropolitan area.

Dedicated paediatric staff, including emergency paediatricians, will deliver paediatric services at FSH from February 2015, providing health care closer to home for more families.

There will be 24 beds in FSH’s paediatric ward, five paediatric beds in the day surgery unit and a separate entrance and treatment area for children in FSH’s emergency department, which will include 10 acute bays and four short-stay beds in the paediatric area and two paediatric bays in the ED trauma and resuscitation area.

The $450,000 paediatric playground was generously donated by FSH’s managing contractor, Brookfield Multiplex, and its construction subcontractors, consultants and suppliers. It will provide children receiving medical care at FSH with a reprieve from their treatment, allowing them to immerse themselves in play.
