Fiona Stanley Hospital will provide an expanded range of clinical services to patients from today, with the second phase of the hospital opening on schedule.

Following the official opening of the State’s new flagship hospital in October, Phase 2 will specifically see the commencement of selected general medical, surgical, orthopaedic, anaesthetic and hyperbaric medicine services.

Up to 20 patients will move into the general medical ward today from Kaleeya Hospital, and the first surgical procedure will take place in the state-of-the-art operating theatres tomorrow.

Maternity and neonatal services will be the next to open, following the move of services from Kaleeya Hospital in December.

The hospital’s phased opening ensures the safety and quality of patient care, and service continuity across the health system.

The Emergency Department is scheduled to open in February 2015 during Phase 3.
