Connecting hospitals via the FSH helipad

Last week the first patient was direct transferred via helicopter from another WA hospital to the FSH Intensive Care Unit.

While the helipad has been operational since February 2015, this is the first time that a patient was transferred directly from a rural hospital to FSH.

The patient was transferred from the South West Health Campus, highlighting the extensive capability of the RAC Rescue Helicopter Retrieval Service in the South West of Western Australia.

Direct patient transfer fulfils the intent of the patient centred approach with the “Right Care, Right Time, Right Place” model of care.

This is an example of the varied use of the helicopter retrieval service that is available to over 90% of Western Australians.

The FSH helipad is strategically located above Operating Theatres, Intensive Care and the Emergency Department with special access via a priority lift to ensure patients receive treatment as quickly as possible.
