Over 40 women, their support people and children took part in the final tour of maternity services at Fiona Stanley Hospital (FSH) last night in preparation for the service opening on 2 December 2014.

Six tours were held over the past month to ensure that the mothers transferring from Kaleeya Hospital are comfortable accessing and using the maternity services available at FSH.

Midwifery Manager Ambulatory Service, Peta Skuthorp who hosted the tours spoke about the milestone event.

“It is anticipated that over 100 babies will be delivered at FSH during the month of December 2014 and these families are now a part of the hospital’s history, she said.

“We have worked so hard to set up the service and now look forward to doing what we do best, supporting women during their pregnancy, their delivery and beyond”.

The group were taught all they need to know about the after-hours access, where their clinic appointments are located and the entrance to the Birthing Suite. They then received a behind-the-scenes look at the birthing rooms including the water bath and the 24-bed post natal ward.

Maternity Services will commence operations on 2 December 2014 as part of the Phase 2B opening that includes one operation theatre for gynaecology and obstetrics, antenatal clinics and the 18 bed neonatal unit.
