Pathology

At Fiona Stanley Hospital, we provide a wide range of pathology services including anatomical pathology, biochemistry, haematology (including transfusion medicine), microbiology, immunology and genomics. We aim to support the growing demand for pathology services within the south metropolitan area as well as at our hospital.

Run by PathWest Laboratory Medicine WA, our Pathology department offers a 24 hour daily inpatient service.

A purpose-built pathology facility is located adjacent to the main hospital and includes:

  • three levels of laboratory and support space, and
  • a lower ground, back-of-house area.

Specimen Collection Centre

The PathWest FSH Specimen Collection Centre is located on the ground floor of the main hospital, off the main concourse.

Outpatient specimen collections are performed for clinic patients, GP and external requests, including timed dynamic test collection such as glucose tolerance tests, short synacthen tests, and other collections that require patient preparation. Please note that all timed collections must be booked in advance.

Specimen collection for clinical trial samples are performed as required.

Daily ward rounds for inpatients are performed by the Specimen Collection Centre throughout the year.
