An educational film that shows how to insert an umbilical catheter, developed by Fiona Stanley Hospital Consultant Neonatologist Rory Trawber and Clinical Videographer Jason Janetzky, has won best film at The Australian Conference of Vascular Access (external link).

Out of 8 entries from the across the globe, the film was deemed the worthy winner for its novel technique, clear educational messaging and high-end quality production.

The film was judged on documentary evidence, patient experience, clinical procedures and educational content.

Rory said the win was a surprise but is thrilled with the recognition.

“The film is very educational but Jason managed to get some brilliant shots of the procedure which set it apart from the other home-style videos.”

“The film is currently used as a standardised learning tool for staff and will form part of a neonatal encyclopaedia covering other procedural techniques and educational topics,” Rory said.

The film will progress to the World Congress on Vascular Access film festival (external link), to be held next year.
