Newborn Caleb Tyers has helped Fiona Stanley Hospital (FSH) mark a notable milestone.

Born in the early hours on 6 June, Caleb was the 3000th baby to be delivered at FSH this financial year.

First-time mother Amy Tyers said much like Caleb, the milestone was a lovely surprise.

“There were seven babies born that night, so when I was told that Caleb was the 3000th baby delivered, it made the moment even more special,” Amy said.

Mum and bub are doing well, which Amy attributes to exceptional care she had received from the FSH Maternity staff.

“I’m very grateful to the obstetricians and midwives, who have all been fantastic,” Amy said.

“Any trepidation that I had, the staff immediately put my mind at easy and made me feel secure.”

Amy also said she felt lucky to have the support of mental health services.

“I’m really happy with how I’ve been supported, not only by the medical and nursing staff but also with the support available through the mental health service,” she said.

“As a new mum, I was worried about how I was going to bond with my baby.

“By accessing these services, I’ve been able to focus on the two of us. It has also been reassuring to know that if I get the baby blues, I’m in a supportive environment.”

Last year FSH delivered just over 2,800 babies, and is on target to deliver at least 3,200 this year.

Well done to all of the hard-working maternity staff!
