Families whose babies were cared for in the Fiona Stanley Hospital (FSH) Neonatal Unit (NNU) have expressed their appreciation to staff at an afternoon tea organised by the Miracle Babies Foundation as part of Thank U NICU Day on 8 November.

NNU Nurse Unit Manager Gemma Sims said the event was an opportunity to celebrate the work of neonatal units.

“Having a baby born too early or critically ill can be really distressing for families,” Gemma said.

“Our aim is to provide newborns with the best care possible while supporting the parents in their time of need.

“Nothing satisfies us more than seeing a newborn graduate from the unit.”

Donna Fiorenza, whose daughter Ella was born prematurely at 31 weeks, praised staff for the excellent care she received.

“We were so grateful for the support during those anxious moments and could not have asked for any better care,” Donna said.
