All Katie Hardwick wanted for her 24th birthday was to bring a smile to the faces of sick children, and this week her birthday wish came true.

Katie, along with her friend Gabby Sawyer, visited Fiona Stanley Hospital (FSH) to donate care packages for paediatric patients on Ward 3A.

Each pack was filled with toys, colouring books and other fun goodies, generously given to Katie by her friends and family in lieu of birthday presents.

Katie said she was inspired to do something different for her birthday when her mum, Nancy Hardwick, suggested the idea.

“It was lots of fun making each pack.  Katie invited her friends around to help decorate and fill each gift bag, all the girls got a buzz from it,” said Nancy.

Katie said it made her feel good knowing that her generosity will make a small difference to someone else’s day.

“We hope this makes the children smile and giggle,” said Katie.

Nurse Unit Manager Lynda Deacon was delighted to accept the donation on behalf of the patients.

“It’s these small acts of kindness that truly brighten up our patient’s day, especially if they’re having a tough day,” said Lynda.

“We are thankful for Katie’s kindness.”
